Malaga Feria

Probably the biggest party of the year in Spain, and certainly the longest, the Feria in Malaga lasts NINE days.
It is a celebration of Malaga’s incorporation in to the realm of the Castilians in the fourteen hundreds so it is actually not a Feria in the real sense, as there was no horse fair originally. One year it was opened by Antonio Banderos who is of course from Malaga himself.

There are two parts to the Feria, one in Malaga City mainly around Calle Larios the main shopping street, but it spreads off and up to Plaza Mercede.
The second part is at night at  The Palacia de Feria (which is on the right hand side as you go the airport, just before the turn-off after the tunnel at Carlos Hiya)
There are dozens of Casitas with live music and of course dancing
Why not take the service bus from Nerja bus station to Malaga?
During the day in the city there is street entertainment for kids with a  punch and judy stall, face painting, mini circus’ and plenty of bouncy castles. Street entertainers on stilts kept us all laughing with their antics.
The horse driven carriages that normally abound in Malaga are all decked out in finery, there was even one pulled by eight horses.
In the town It seemed as if every bar was competing with every other bar to see how loud they could play Spanish dance or disco music, with thousands of merry people dancing in the street, seemingly fuelled by large quantities of sweet Malaga wine. Hundreds of people were in traditional Spanish dress,
On an evening everything happens at The Palacia de Feria, and there is a shuttle bus service from the town.
