Nerja Cemetery
Situated on (the old E340) Avenida Pescia next to the BP petrol station, a peaceful place and really worth a visit especially on All Saint’s Day November 1st.
The Day of the dead, when relatives spend time cleaning and polishing the last rsting place of their relatives. Also traditionally the first day you see hot chestnut sellers.
Probably the busiest day for florists!
When we visited people were up ladders cleaning and polishing and placing new flowers. The smell from all the fresh flowers filled the air.
All ages were there and people were laughing and smiling. There was even a street trader selling hot chestnuts just outside the entrance as well a flower seller.
On the evening of All Saint’s day a lot of people will hold an all night vigil at the cemetery beside their departed loved ones. The belief is that on this night the spirits of the dead return to be with the living for just one night.
