Casabermeja
One of those days when you just go where the fancy takes you. Four friends, a car with a full tank of petrol and nowhere to be, the day was ours. We toddled along the coast road towards Torrox while we tried to make our minds up, and eventually decided to head up towards lake Vinuela and see what happened. Past the lake we picked up the signs for Casabermeja and thought why not. The scenery here is beautiful with great granite mountains in the background behind olive and almond groves and the land slowly levels out to more corn type country. Take your camera! Casabermeja is unassuming and the motorway down to Malaga whizzes past. The town was full of cement trucks for some unknown reason, we couldn’t see any being poured, maybe a convoy just stopping for lunch. As you enter the town turn right and go slightly up the hill and park up. Just further up on the left is Asador restaurant is not very clearly signed and even the sign above the door was minimalist, but inside is worth the visit, full AC and a typically Spanish bar with hams, barrels and large carbouys full of local wines. The menu looked inviting and the refrigerated display had suckling pig, a great rack of beef and pork ribs. In the corner of the restaurant was the front kitchen with a great big wood fired bread oven and barbecue. We had to pick the most expensive wine at 25 euros…………… We ordered gaspatcho, stuffed peppers and spiced sausages for starters with three beef ribs and one pork solomio in Roquefort sauce and sat back and enjoyed the excellent wine. My soup arrived and with little persuasion I tucked in. Strange, the other starters did not appear and when we asked the waiter he said the others would arrive together (we thought maybe the soup was an or’deuve and the rest were starters!) Then came my rib which was a sirloin steak, and then came a large portion of stuffed peppers, n equally large spicy sausage and the pork in sauce, oops All the food was well prepared and presented and delicious. We did not make a fuss just enjoyed the meal. The waiter obviously got the order wrong big time even though we had ordered in Spanish and he read the order back to us. All in all the meal with the wine and water and bread and a salad came to 95 euros, not cheap but there was that 25 euro bottle of wine. We will come again but we will make him read the order back to us twice! The restaurant staff do speak English and the menu is available in English also a menu del dia is available. Worth a visit just for the food and a great scenic route
