Trevelez

This is a three or four hour drive not including stops. It takes you up to one of the highest small towns in the area, Trevelez, at about 2500 metres and famous for its Spanish hams, although where all the pigs are I am not sure.
Take the N340 road to Motril and then follow the signs to Granada (N323). Watch out for the small waterfalls on your right as you travel this road. You take the turning to the right to Lanjaron (A348) at the area just before where the new damn is being built. A lot of the valley you drive along will soon be gone. Follow the road through Lanjaron, through Orgiva  and on up to Penginquia, a nice place to stop for lunch, there are a few shops, and four or five restaurants some with roof terraces.
If you carry on past Penginquia you will reach the 'famous' therapeutic springs at  Fuerte Agria. Try the water for yourselves, we saw people drinking the stuff but for life of me I don't know why, because it tastes absolutely awful. Look at the colour of the bed of the stream!
Then on to Trevelez with hams everywhere, a couple of bars & restaurants and some touristy shops, so a coffee and then back home.
Remember to take your camera though, because the scenery is stunning.

The day we took this trip there was a huge fire blazing on the mountains, so take care with those cigarette ends!

Orgiva to Orgiva
It was a Sunday in March , and we had just had 3 or 4 days of rain (we had planned to go to Cordoba for the weekend but the weather put paid to that) and it was a bright, dry and sunny day.
Inland from Nerja we could see snow on the mountains, so we decided to head up to the Sierra Nevada mountains to see it close up.
So East along the coast to Motril and up the Granada road, we headed up past the new dam and took the right turn off for Lanjaron (where the bottled water comes from) on to Orgiva and then on up through Capileira to the national Park for a quick snowball fight.
Then on to Trevelez for a coffee. Normally we would come back the way we went up, but had always wondered where the road on the other side of the valley went to. If you follow the road through Trevelez it takes a sharp right turn and then you are on the road we had seen.
What a result!
Stay on this road and don't take any of the turn offs, but head on through Juviles and on to Cadiar and you then pick up the signs for Orgiva. When you get to Orgiva carry straight on and the road takes you back to the new dam and the road back down to the coast.
The road is very twisty and windy, but the road from Cadiar to Orgiva is a dream, just wish we were in a Subaru Imprezza!

The road is quite long and the round trip from Orgiva to Orgiva is 90km but definitely worth it, stunning scenery, and fantastic mountain roads and second and third gear most of the time!.
We will be going back to do it all again but next time on motorbikes I reckon.

Nerja West to Motril, N328/E902 Granada, Right turn to Lanjaron, Orgiva, Pampaneira, Bubion, Capileira, Nation Park, Capileira, Trevelez, Juviles, Cadiar, Orgiva, Motril, Nerja.
Total 250km drive time not including stops 4 hours 20 minutes approx..............DO IT!!!
