Things to do

Nerja is primarily a town and beach destination but still with a very Spanish feel and great for days on the beach and nights in the many bars and restautants in the town.
Nerja has a good choice of beaches, from the quiet to the commercially developed.
If you are looking for a church to visit or maybe an exhibition here are some choices:

 
Cultural Centre Nerja

Cultural Centre, Calle Granada.
Showing a variety of entertainment throughout the year including live music, dance, theatre and lectures. Entrance charges vary and are sometimes free. Situated on Calle Granada,  directly up from Plaza Cavana near The Balcon

Nerja Cemetery

The Cemetery Nerja.
Situated next door to the BP petrol station on Avda Pescia, a peaceful and pretty cemetery and worth a visit especially on All Saints Day Nov 1st.

The Caves of Nerja.
A 1 euro bus ride from Nerja right to the Caves.
The magnificent Nerja Caves – On January 12th 1959, five local lads from the village of Maro decided to go hunting for bats and discovered the caves of Nerja – are a series of huge caverns and home to the world’s largest stalagmite.
Open 10am – 7.30pm and in winter 10am – 2pm & 4pm – 6:30pm. Admissions, Adults: €8.50 Children under 6 years: Free. 6-12: 4.50. Seniors: 4.00

A motorised version of the horse drawn carriages, that leaves from Calle Diputacion during the day and Plaza de fabrica de los Cangrejos in the evenings.
   
 
San Salvador Church

San Salvador Church

San Salvador Church, Balcon de Europa.
A religious site since the 15th century but the current church wasn’t built until the 17th century. The tree that stands in front is actually much taller than the church and when viewd from the very top of town towers over the church
 
Ermita de las Angustias

Ermita de las Angustias

Ermita de la Angustias, Calle San Miguel. Founded in 1720 by Mrs Bernada Alfarez a member of the Lopez de Alcantra family from Granada. She also owned the sugar factory San Antonio Abad. The chapel has a single nave, a high chapel with a semi circular dome with arches and a niche with an image of Nuestra Sra de Angustias (our Lady of Anguish) who is the patron saint of Nerja. The murals in the dome illustrating Whitsun and in the four triangles of the cupola, the four evangelists. The hermitage has been recently restored to it’s former glory.

A gallery for exhibitions, regularly showing work by local and international artists from art and sculpture to photographs.

Balcon de Europa

The Balcon de Europa.
Considered to be the centre of Nerja with a great view point on the site of the old tower, with many restaurants, a great plece for a stroll or just have a beer and people watch.  more information
