It’s just
our opinion but The California restaurant on Cristos offers
the best value for money, good food, reasonable prices and
good service. Same can be said for the café del mar down on
Burriana and the La Parra.
The only
Spanish restaurant we regularly go to is the old cellar (Pepe
Mesa) on Los Huertos, this is because the Mrs is a
Vegetarian and they do some rather nice dishes for those
with that inclination. Getting a little more expensive is
Sloan’s restaurant also located on Los Huertos, quite
possibly the best food in town, but you will pay for it.
Same can be said for the Haveli Tandoori restaurant, it does
make for a pleasant change but again it’s pricey. Scarletas,
in between the Haveli and the California does a rack of
piglet ribs in barbeque sauce that’s to die for, manor from
haven, but not much choice for veggies so it’s become some
what a controversial choice for us. Again it’s only our
opinion.
On our to
do list is the White truffle and A taste of India, and I’m
sure that Pepe Rico does good food to, we have got as far as
reading the menu on the threshold, but again limited dishes
for veggies has been our down fall here.

Enjoyed trying some of the recommendations
here. White Truffle superb!. Great food and wonderful friendly
owners-they even gave us a lift back to Malaga airport a few
days later-how's that for service beyond the call of duty!!!!
Unfortunately they have now moved further up the coast but
watch this space -talent like theirs is sure to reappear! Good
luck Sian and Lisa!
Would also like to mention Hotel rural Almazara on road from
Nerja to Frigiliana. Had wonderful stay there in authentic
Spanish
style and great food fantastic-open to non residents too. Try it
you'll not be disappointed!

We love Nerja and have found many nice
places to enjoy our meals while out and about the area, and when
on Burriana Beach, we especially enjoy
Bitter n Twisted,
Tony, Gill and Mike along with all the staff are always
friendly, happy to see and visit with their customers and love
having the children. They have a great and varied menu for both
lunch and dinner. Sports is always on agenda. We are sure you
will love any time you may spend with them. Oh and a great view
of the beach.

Recently found your website and read some of the recommendations on
where to eat in Nerja. We have visited Nerja for many years and eaten
in numerous restaurants. Our favourite is El Candil on the Balcon de
Europa. Our holiday really begins when we arrive there on our first
night and are met by the friendly staff. The restaurant is ideally
situated to enjoy the atmosphere of the Balcon de Europa. El Candil have
a wide choice of menu which entices us back many times during our stay.
just seen their new website and already chosen our meal for when we
arrive again at the end of this month. Counting the days until then.

During our last trip we ate out every night and tried many of the places
listed on the ‘we recommend’ section of this website, but our favourite
this time round was one which hasn’t had a mention yet, namely The Curry
House on Mediterraneo. We had a lovely meal, prices were reasonable,
food was tasty and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

Have just returned after a sunny 7 days in Nerja. Tried for the first
time the Bamboo Restaurant and can recommend this. The setting is
great, right by the beach, and the food is good, reasonably priced. An
old favourite is Pepe Rico which does a Menu del dia for 11 euros,
including wine or beer and bread. The patio at the rear was not being
used at this time of year but for the Summer months very pretty. Good
service and consistently good food, reasonably priced

When we arrive in Nerja ( as we do regularly), we always
head for Bakers Bar on Burriana where we know we'll receive
a warm welcome and a good meal at a reasonable price. This
week, on arrival, we did just that and found that Tony, the
geneal, jovial, "most eligible bachelor of Nerja" host had
some excellent "Specials" to add to his already varied menu.
Beef Wellington, freshly baked, was served with Bakers tasty
mash and fresh veg. Norma had pan fried lambs liver with
onions and bacon in a delicious sauce. Antonia, our
daughter, had her usual Swordfish which was up to the normal
high standard. Tony's Chef is Tollo who never fails to keep
to his high standards of cooking.

Just finished our latest visit to Nerja and decided to look
up the "Victoria" as mentioned in postings. Also being avid
Man Utd fans it seemed the place to be. I can certainly say
it has a very welcoming atmosphere and the food is excellent
value. We popped in again before leaving town and we were
warmly received and it will feature on our return in March.

Just spent our first Christmas & New Year in Nerja (although
this is our 4th visit over the last 7 years) Our two
favourite restaurants on this visit were Colonia on Playa
Burriana and The White Truffle.
How we have never stumbled across Colonia before is beyond
me, everyone has been there apart from us!. Great mixed
Tapas plate, excellent value for money & good service.
New Years eve was spent in The White Truffle. Food was
excellent as was the service. Lisa was hilarious.
We went to a different restaurant every night as we have
always done when we visit Nerja and give them all ago.
Haveli was good, but found it very expensive.
Looking forward to our next visit already

We once again enjoyed our most
recent visit to Nerja. We had a special treat by going to
Udo Heimer Restaurant. Although the prices are quite high
it was certainly good value and great entertainment from Udo
himself.
We are going back to Nerja for
Christmas where we will have Christmas lunch at our
favourite restaurant Camaleon in Burriana. Maria and
Matthew in the kitchen always seem to keep their standards
up to a really high level with Mark and Gavin at the front
being particularly welcomming.
We would also recommend the
Nerja de Nerja Restaurant on the beach front at Burriana.
The two belgian brothers always look after you.

We
recently came back from one of our regular visits to Nerja
and discovered a gem – White Truffle. The food is excellent
and the girls who run it, Lisa and Sian provide a relaxing
and friendly service. It is worth searching it out, as the
restaurant is located in a quiet road. The quality and
choice of food is quite exceptional. The Ship (opposite the
Hotel Monica) is also worth visiting for a drink as you
always receive a friendly welcome from Michel and Agnes.

Geoff, from Bristol Oct 07
We visit Nerja on a regular basis and have tried many of the fantastic
restaurants. One of our favourites is Rosis Bar on C/Malaga. Charo is
an amazing cook and Roberto makes you so welcome. Charo does one of the
best steaks in Nerja! This is one of the most friendliest
bars/restaurants in Nerja.
Also for an Italian we love Dolce Vita also on C/Malaga and Pinnochios.
Wendy & Alan Oct 07
Eaten at so many restaurants over the years in nerja favourites been
langhams and hotel carrebeo, this time we went to el chicle in torrox
costa, ok if you have a car the food was amazing as well as the service.
some things on the menu are rather expensive, but we were well impressed
with the value of our meal.

Hello. We have just got back from Nerja for the second time. Its very
sad to leave and all i can think about is getting back there (like the
nexus in that Star Trek film!!).
Unfortunately, we only went for a week, but we ate out every night apart
from one. The places that stood out the most are The Haveli, words
cannot describe the beauty that passes through your lips, my mouth is
watering just thinking about that wonderful Bombay Aloo!! The staff
there are extremely friendly too and you are made to feel very welcome.
We also found a wonderful place on the last night (always the way!!)
called California. Again the staff are very friendly and the food was
beautiful and we were lucky enough to get a rooftop view of the town
while we ate.
Those were the main two that amazed us. We also ate at other places that
were very nice too, like Merendero Moreno and Pinocchio's (took for ever
to get the bill but the food was nice).
Roll on next year!!

Once again my thanks to Carlos from Taller
Centurion (on the corner behind the
supermarket opposite La Teja) who repaired
the sump on my very old BMW again, after
giving it a second bashing up in the campo.
Carlos has rescued and serviced my car for
nearly seven years, and at very reasonable
prices. Neville Sept 07
I have stayed in nerja for the past 5
winters and if you are in San Juan
capistrano it would be hard to beat Stoker
Browns restaurant for a traditional Sunday
lunch, booking is advisable. as it gets very
busy. Next door is Tony in Rockys bar, a
good atmosphere,a great pint, great staff
and internet if you need it. What more can a
man need. Keep up the good work, I am
looking forward to going back in November
Graham August 07
Just back from Nerja after three blissful
weeks of eating out. Would like to
recommend La Teja near the Hotel Monica,
Mirasol near Plaza de los Cangrejos and my
absolute favourite, Anahi near the Balcon.
Also on the road to Torrox, Venta de San
Miguel aka 'The Ranch'. Had a few
disappointments also at some of the more
well-know establishments mentioned on this
site - but that may just be personal
preference. El Puguilla is fab fish
restaurant on Calle Cristo.
Kelly August 07
The Buenos Aires steak house, has
the best steak in town and is a must if you
are eating out. Langham's restaurant has a
great menu of fantastic food.
The Bella Italia is the best Italian
Restaurant in town, we tried several others
(my wife loves Italian food) and and they
were not up to the Italia's standards. One
famous Italian Restaurant in particular just
off the Balcon, was very poor {only the
salad could be consumed}.
The Cottage scored highly on our list for
friendly service and great food.
Great Bars, H2O and Cochranes.
Dougie Wylie Aug 07
Made in Italy just around the corner from
the hotel monica, what a great menu and the
food was excellent too, sadly it was our
last night when we found this place but we
will definitely be back when we return in
November.
Simon & Carol Fleming Aug 07
Just returned from a wonderful two week
holiday in Nerja and would highly recommend
the Taste of India restaurant for takeaway
or eat in. Lovely atmosphere and the best
tasting indian food around. If you enjoy a
nice indian meal then this is the place for
you - the chef is happy to add extra spice
(highly recommend you ask for a Chicken
Ceylon with a bit of extra spice, and the
onion bhajee's are a must!).

Have just discovered your website and
found it very interesting.
We have been going to Nerja for ten years in
summer and winter and love it. We have tried
many of the restaurants mentioned and agree
with most of the comments. But nobody has
mentioned the California which although not
the most upmarket gives tremendous value for
money with good traditional food and
friendly service. For something more
upmarket we would recommend El Candil and
Pepe Rico. But will be trying the
Argentinian Steak restuarant which seems new
to us in the area of the Chaparil which we
have watched develop but tended to ignore.
Not any more.
Drew and Rosemary Duncan July 07
"A Taste of India" Our favorite restaurant
in Nerja. Since moving back to the USA
almost a year ago, we have fond memories of
Raju and his great staff. We could sure use
an Indian restaurant of his quality here in
Sarasota.

Our family had a fantastic visit to Europe
which included a few days in Nerja, Spain.
We were really well received in all the bars
and restaurants we visited. We can
certainly advise fellow countrymen and
others to drop in at a number of special
bars and restaurants which included the Harp
Bar (great atmosphere), Cochraine's Terrace
(for a beautiful view of the sea) and the
Camaleon Restaurant in Nerja's burriana
beach (for fantastic fillet steaks). We
hope everyone enjoys Nerja as we have.
Luke King and Family Canada July 07
If you're ever going to Nerja, i definitely
recommend that you go to a restaurant called The
Old Cellar. The restaurant is run by a famous
Spaniard called Pepe Mesa, he will welcome you
with open arms to his restaurant, apartments
and farms. I only met him a year ago and already
i'm looking forward to going to his apartment
next week!
Jane Bowen July 07
Just back from a week in Nerja with friends.
The Thursday was my Birthday and the restaurant
choice was mine, from sample menus I chose the
White Truffle mainly due to the excellent choice
of desserts as most Spanish restaurants only
offer ice cream or Creme caramel. The restaurant
is run by 2 English girls who couldn't have been
friendlier or more helpful, so much so that when
my girlfriend visited earlier in the evening to
order champagne they went out and bought the one
we wanted as they didn't have it in stock. Each
course has 6 or 7 choices and there is something
to please everyone. My meal was Thai Fishcakes
followed by Lamb suet pudding on a bed of mash
and a sticky toffee pudding made in heaven
Tables were very well presented, service was
excellent and the chef came out to ensure
everything was satisfactory This restaurant is
on a quiet back street but please search it out
you will not be disappointed

Had a fantastic meal at The Avalon Restaurant when
staying in Nerja last week. I had the crispy duck a
la orange and my partner had the Lamb shank both
meals were superb and what made the evening more
special was the table magic performed at the end of
the evening by Chris Knight. A fantastic night out,
I would highly recommend - food ambience and the
view from their terrace is amazing!
Christopher Jones June 07
Following our recent stay in Nerja, I would like to
recommend two quite different restaurants.
For that special meal we recommend Buenos Aires, the
Argentinian Steak House. We enjoyed an excellent
meal (steak of course) to the accompaniment of two
melodic South American (one Chilean and one
Argentinian) musicians. A wonderful atmosphere.
Our second recommendation, El Gourmet, for it's
friendliness and incredible tapas. Try Irene's
special. You will receive a warm welcome from Irene
and Victor whatever time of day you call in. Both of
these restaurants are in the Chaparil district,
close to the Riu Monica.
Gwyn & Alyson, May 2007.
Would just like to say thank you to the ladies who
run the White Truffle restaurant in Manuel Marin for
an exceptionally good Sunday lunch last Sunday. The
atmosphere was relaxed, not hectic like some
restaurants on a Sunday in Nerja, and it was great
value for money. Will be returning soon.
Beverly & Mike May 07
What a nice surprise to find a bar that is
focused on a slightly older clientelle, we bumped
into the stereo bar (just near the Monica) by
accident and really liked it there. Just a shame it
was the last night of our holidays, but still a
great place for after dinner drinks!
Joan and John Bradley May 07
Having been a visitor to Nerja since 1989 we have
now our own home in the town and enjoy longer stays.
These stays would not be complete without a visit to
Colonia on Burrianna beach where Jose & Sandra serve
up wonderful tapas and a great menu with a wide
choice of fish steaks and pasta. and always with a
smile. La Teja is always good try the suckling pig!
El Nino has the best leg of lamb and a wide choice
of excellent wines. Pepe Rico has a wonderful patio
area and great food served by a great head waiter
who is always helpful and cheerful. I always check
this site before a visit to get new recommendations
has we have got very lazy in our old age and oftn
don't wander far from our own favorites.
Christine Alcock May 07
The women who run this restaurant have really got
their act together. They all have a lot of
experience in food and it shows. The restaurant is
classy and comfortable, the hospitality good but
most importantly the food is excellent both the a la
carte and the fixed price sunday lunch which is
unbelievably good value for money with 3 courses at
around 12euro.
David McManus May 07
Just got back to England today.
We just thought we had to mention the excellent
meals at the Roundhouse as well as the tapas and
atmosphere. Another must try is the Caribbean
Cafe. Simon, the chef, is passionate about food and
does a very good job preparing. If you're in
that area, try to drop into Bar Dolores, a plain
Spanish bar with a cracking atmosphere on a Friday
night.
Yvonne & Jon April 07
Our Family has been and admirer of Nerja
for many years, and the reason that brings us back
is the fact that the town and surrounding area still
holds the magic that is old Spain. If we want 'All
day English b
Breakfasts' or a 'Pie and a Pint' in the sun then
we'll go to one of the many resorts down the coast.
Always willing to try new places to eat, here is
where we currently have tried with great success.
Restaurant 34's opening night recently went well,
the food and service was great, we've always enjoyed
the food here using fresh ingredients you can taste
the love that is put into its creation. If your on
a budget though try and make room for it just once.
Our other recommendation's would be El Niño, have
the suckling pig, Osteria for the best freshly made
pasta, if your in a small group you can ask
Alessandro for a board of different pastas to share.
For Lunch or dinner when we can't decide where to go
we always choose La Parra de Burriana on Calle
Filipinas. Can't fault it, every time perfect. last
week we ate there 4 times. Fresh local ingredients,
cooked with passion in a style to suit the seasons
and very affordable, kids menu, Live music, cookery
schools and more! Oh and its where Gordon Ramsay
filmed last summer for Channel 4 's Kitchen
Nightmares, well not any more! For Tapas we always
choose the Round Bar and a seafood bar on Castilla
perez, we forget the name, its on Plaza Marina. For
a night on the town start at H2O
Heather Fairgrieve Mar 07
Had a great time in Nerja once again. We visited a
number of good restaurants including Asian Ben's
just off the Balcon and Venta San Miguel on the
outskirts of town. Our favourite was Camaleon on
Burriana Beach near to H2O. It was the only
restaurant we visited twice as the food and service
were excellent. The atmosphere is a bit
special with their unusual lighting which the owners
told us helps to change the colour of the place each
night - hence the name Camaleon. Can't wait to get
back to Nerja later on in the year.
James Dixon Mar 07
I am now on count down till
my next visit to Nerja - flying out at 7 am from Glasgow
on 23 March for 10 days (2 weeks and 3 days to go) not
that I am counting (should be there in time for lunch)
and hoping to be sitting having a refreshing tipple
after our travelling. Planning to try the Argentine
Restaurant and Made in Italy (both restaurants having
been recommended on this site) this visit - real handy
for us as the apartment we've rented is on Plaza Fabrica
on Avda Mediterraneo, just a short walk from both these
restaurants - we've noticed that quite a few of the
recommendations are either on our street or very close
by, yahoo, not too far to stagger at the end of the
night!!!
Roll on Nerja, can't come
quick enough, this rotten weather in Scotland in really
getting me down and the fact that the temperature in
Nerja is up in the high 60s in making it worse each day
when I go online to keep an eye on the weather out
there.
See you soon Nerja - Anne
Craig, Scotland, March 2007
Lovely time in sunny Nerja, last week, good food in
abundance, but special mention of White truffle, fantastic
food served up by Lisa and Sian will go back again and
again.
Frank and Josie Maguire Liverpool
We visited Nerja for the first time last week, and ate at
lots of places but the one that sticks in our mind was the
Argentine Restaurant near the Hotel Monica called Buenos
Aires, the ribs were to die for and the steak I had was the
best I have ever had! the service is friendly and our waiter
just couldn't do enough for us.
Why can't we get steaks and service like that back home. Our
fist visit to Nerja but it won't be our last and no doubt we
will be back to this restaurant.
Robert & Jane March 07
We have to agree with Anne Craig in her praise of El Candil.
We were there for new years eve and that was one of the best
nights out of my life .The owners and staff really do make
it special. We will be back!
