Nerja Carnival

The Carnaval procession for 2014 is  Saturday 1st March
Nerja’s version of  Mardigras (Carnaval)  is simply brilliant, where many hundreds of people go to extraordinary lengths to dress up in costumes (and political correctness hasn’t arrived here!) and make floats for the procession that starts around five pm Saturday.
The carnival is usually held mostly in February (but as it based around the date for shrove Tuesday it does move and is always held the weekend before)  which makes 2014’s  Carnaval procession  in Nerja will be Saturday 1st March.

Sunday 10th The Funeral of the Chanquete from Plaza Espana.
Things start around 2pm then at 4.30 the municipal band will entertain followed at 5pm with the procession along C/Carmen, Granada, Plaza Ermita, La cruz, Pintada, Puerta del Mar and down to Calahonda beach where the Sardine will be ceremoniously burned (exploded with fireworks!)

  2. I’ve got to admit this is my favourite! I never laughed so much. Just find a nice bar on the route and enjoy. I can’t wait tell 2011 for the next one
